Two Windes Partners Embark on the Retirement Trail

Ron Kulek and Lyle Scheppele, two Partners in the Audit Department at Windes, decided to officially retire from the firm in 2017 after many years of outstanding and dedicated service to clients, the accounting profession, and the communities in southern California. However, while Ron’s day-to-day involvement with clients has ended, Lyle will maintain a reduced presence in the firm by continuing to serve some clients on a limited basis. Even though Ron and Lyle worked in the same department for many years, their experiences and accomplishments are quite varied.

Ron joined the Windes family of accountants in 1979 after graduating Magna Cum Laude from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Accounting. He was promoted to manager in 1986 and became a partner four years later at the dawn of the 1990s. His extensive accounting experience included audits and reviews of financial statements, evaluation of internal controls, and business consulting services. Ron’s main focus during his tenure at Windes had been serving nonprofit organizations and privately held businesses. In addition to his direct client work, Ron served on the firm’s Board of Directors from 2008-2013 and as editor of the firm’s Solutions newsletter from 2004 until 2017. As a representative of Windes in the community, Ron was a board member and Audit Committee Chairman for the YMCA of Greater Long Beach and a past Chairman of Young Horizons. Whatever task Ron undertook at Windes, he was known to be diligent, thoughtful and always exemplified a high degree of honesty and integrity. When he was away from crunching numbers at Windes, Ron enjoyed outdoor activities such as dirt bike riding and water skiing at the Colorado River, where he owns a house and a boat. Now that he is retired, he can spend more time with his wife Tina, his two children, and his granddaughter at the River, or wherever the retirement road takes him.

Lyle joined the Windes practice in 1988 after graduating as an Accounting major from Cal State Fullerton and compiling seven years of private industry experience. He became a manager in 1990 and was promoted to partner in 1994. His practice focus consisted of audit and review services, business merger and acquisition planning, and business structure. His client roster included firms in the real estate, construction, manufacturing, retail and medical fields. While Lyle was responsible for some of the firm’s larger multi-national clients, his main focus was on medium-sized businesses. In addition, he was involved in the firm’s worldwide membership in Baker Tilly International, the world’s 9th largest accounting firm network. Lyle was named Chairman of the Audit Department in 2001 and served on the Board of Directors from 2006-2014. In January 2005, Lyle was chosen to lead the firm’s new Orange County office in Irvine. Lyle lived the firm’s value of giving back to the community by serving on the Board of Directors of the Credit Union of Southern California and as the Audit Committee Chair of the Pacific Symphony. Lyle was a strong leader and will be remembered for the passion and enthusiasm he brought to his work every day at Windes. As he slowly eases into retirement, Lyle can focus more on his golf game and travelling places far and wide with his wife Christie and his three children.

Many thanks to Ron and Lyle for their years of service to Windes. Happy retirement guys!
