The Social Security Administration has announced that the wage base for computing the Social Security tax (OASDI) in 2018 has been reduced to $128,400 from the original amount of $128,700. The agency said the lower wage base is due to approximately 500,000 corrected year 2016 W-2s provided to Social Security in late October 2017 by a national payroll service provider that resulted in re-evaluation of three items used in the computation of Social Security benefits.
