New Form I-9

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released a new version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9 07/17/17 N) that must be used beginning on September 18, 2017. The November 14, 2016 version of Form I-9 was revised to include acceptable documents for beneficiaries under a rule proposed by the Obama administration called the “International Entrepreneur Rule”. The rule would allow the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to use its “parole” authority to grant a period of authorized stay, on a case-by-case basis, to foreign entrepreneurs who demonstrate that their stay in the United States would provide a significant public benefit through the potential for rapid business growth and job creation. USCIS decided to revise Form I-9 even though it is uncertain whether the Trump administration will adopt the new rule.

Employers must complete Form I-9 for all newly hired employees to verify their identity and authorization to work in the United States.
